Partalansaari in Sulkava is perhaps one of Finland’s most iconic rowing destinations\u2014and for good reason. On this legendary 60-kilometer King Route, rowers get to experience not only the breathtaking beauty of Finnish nature but also the challenges of the route and the unforgettable sense of triumph that comes from surpassing oneself. This route is for anyone ready for a grand adventure and a demanding physical feat.
<\/em><\/p>

Imagine dozens of church boats gathering under the Hakovirta Bridge, with spectators
cheering above. When the starting shot echoes, adrenaline rushes through your veins\u2014it\u2019s time to go! The steersmen shout commands to the rowers. Pull, pull, pull!<\/p>

This is far from a leisurely Sunday row. The 60-kilometer circuit around Partalansaari puts even the most experienced rowers to the test.<\/p>

The journey begins downstream, however, with breathtaking views of the narrow Hakovirta and Linnanvirta waterways, as well as the towering cliffs of Linnavuori. As you reach the narrower strait of Varmavirta, the rowing becomes almost meditative\u2014At this point, the tranquil Partalansaari conceals a sense of adventure within, unlike anything found elsewhere.<\/p>

Towards Puumala and Haapaselk\u00e4<\/h2>

On the southwestern edge of Partalansaari lies Haapaselk\u00e4, near Keriniemi Point, where
rowers face their ultimate test. Waves challenge not just your physical strength but also your spirit, and navigating around the rocky stretches requires skill and precision.<\/p>

After Haapaselk\u00e4, the route narrows again, leading to Kiet\u00e4v\u00e4l\u00e4 Strait. Here, the Kiet\u00e4v\u00e4l\u00e4 ferry steps aside for the rowers. Freighter ships moving on the deep-water channel don\u2019t give way, so you have to be careful around them.<\/p>

At the Halfway Point: Taking in the Scenery<\/h2>

At the halfway point in Hirviniemi, an old ship pier serves as a great spot for spectators to cheer on the rowers. The encouragement from the crowd gives the strength to push harder
towards J\u00e4nisselk\u00e4.<\/p>

As we turn towards Oulunsalmi, we are treated to the infinitely beautiful landscapes of Lake Saimaa. The boat\u2019s bow now points north. The channel narrows to just a few dozen meters at times, and the rowers nearly touch the shores as the boats weave past small islands. This is perhaps the most stunning part of the row, where the uniqueness of the Partalansaari route truly shines.<\/p>

Testing Grit at Lepist\u00f6nselk\u00e4<\/h2>

Next comes the most renowned and challenging section of the course\u2014the legendary
Lepist\u00f6nselk\u00e4. This stretch tests both physical and mental endurance, but grit will see you through!<\/p>

And indeed, perseverance is rewarded. The small boats are able to slip through Lepp\u00e4salmi on the final stretch. The route weaves through beautiful, winding straits between the islands.<\/p>

Soon, even the church boat rowers, who have been working their way along the deep-water channel, will be able to celebrate \u2013 the Vekaransalmi Bridge becomes clearer and closer with every stroke, and when the church boat reaches the bridge, only 10 kilometers remain to the finish line. At this point, the feeling of victory is already in the air!<\/p>

Partalansaari j\u00e4\u00e4 taakse<\/h2>

With Partalansaari circumnavigated, the final turns guide rowers from Kaartilanselk\u00e4 past
Sikoniemi and through Toroppasalmi. Despite its name, Sikoniemi is a stunningly beautiful
area\u2014if you still have the energy to appreciate the scenery at this stage.<\/p>

By now, one thing dominates your thoughts\u2014the finish line! When the tower of Sulkava Church appears in the distance, emotions start to swell\u2014I did it! We did it!<\/p>

Crossing the finish line at Sulkava Rowing Stadium\u2019s shore is a moment to
