Boat Classes & Categories

Choose the right boat and category for your Saimaa adventure. Whether you are aiming for a championship or a scenic tour, we have a place for you.

1. Boat Classes

  • Small Boats:
    • Single Rowing: One rower with a pair of oars.
    • Pair Rowing: Two rowers, each with a pair of oars.
    • Double Rowing: A Finnish tradition. One rower uses a pair of oars, while the partner uses a paddle to assist and steer.
  • Team Boats:
    • Church Boat (14+1): Our legendary 14-seater wooden boat with a coxswain. 
    • 10-Person Boat: A team boat for 10 rowers and a cox.
    • Gig 4+: Traditional fixed-seat four with a cox (sisähankainnelonen).
  • Modern Classes:
    • Coastal Rowing: Sea-worthy modern boats (C1, C2, C4+).

Canoes and Kayaks: Available on selected routes.

2. Race and series categories

Championship Class (SM-sarja) The highest level of competition for licensed rowers. National Championship titles are contested in various distances and boat classes.

  1. Recreational Class (Kuntosarja) For active rowers who want to challenge themselves and see their official time, but without the pressure of the championship level.
